Be choosy about who you help

When doing work you’re passionate about, it is even more rewarding when you can see where your work has made a difference in others.

It is tempting to try and help everyone, but not everyone needs or wants your gifts. Even if they do want your help, not everyone is ready to transform, whereas others are primed and ready. These are the people you should be looking for.

It helps to look for the groups of people who you already like. You might have skills which can help a wide variety of people but if you don’t enjoy working with them, there is little point in pursuing it.

Look at the types of people you enjoy spending time with, enjoy helping, receive most reward from seeing them succeed in a particular area and where you can see that the application of your knowledge and skills will do the most good.

Think also about alignment with your Creative Superpower. For example, if your gift is calligraphy, then a wide variety of people can benefit from learning this skill.

Primary aged children can learn to write, high school children can improve their handwriting, digital natives will find the process de-stressing, middle-aged women might find calligraphy helpful for creative expression, graphic designers will find it a useful addition to their commercial offerings, senior citizens might find it helpful for mental acuity and so on.
