What do you do when you are procrastinating?
Anyone can do any amount of work, provided it isn’t the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment – Robert Benchley
Procrastination refers to the process of delaying or postponing tasks.
Procrastinating is our subconscious telling us there is something else we would rather be doing. Pay attention to the types of things you do when you are actively procrastinating, because your subconscious is trying to guide you in the right direction.
I am not talking about time-wasting here, I am talking about active work-avoidance. If you are not focused or engaged on the task at hand, your brain is hardwired to look for another stimulus.
Active work avoidance is a valuable clue as to where your skills and strengths would be put to best use. By identifying what you would prefer to be doing, you can design the framework for your Creative Superpower.
Why is it important to understand procrastination?
Every creative person I have ever coached describes themselves as easily distracted, or the victim of shiny object syndrome. We all have endless to-do lists and yet we cannot keep focussed on them because there is always something more appealing that attracts our attention.
Think of your procrastination tendencies as the framework of your Creative Superpower.
