Your Why refers to what motivates and drives you.

Simon Sinek gave his career-making TED talk on the importance of finding your WHY. The talk has been viewed over 40 million times and is widely adopted in business circles as a core philosophy behind taking any leadership action.

Simon’s saying: ‘people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it’ resonated with people looking for a way to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace.

Why is it important to understand our Why?

If you ask people what they do, they can usually tell you in a few sentences. When you ask them how they do it, that is usually an easy question as well. When you ask people why they do what they do, there is often a pause and they struggle to tell you.

Think of your why as the source of your Creative Superpower.

Simon Sinek argues that without a clear Why, it is easy for us to get lost, wander off track, and lose motivation. We also find it harder to get buy-in and support from others if we can’t clearly communicate why we are doing something. Again it goes back to money not being a good enough motivator. We all need a higher purpose.
